Countertop Materials Compared

Quartz

Engineered stone — crushed quartz bound with resin. Non-porous, never needs sealing, consistent color throughout. The most popular choice in Queens kitchens right now.

Pros: Zero maintenance, stain-resistant, huge color selection, consistent pattern Cons: Cannot take extreme heat (use trivets), visible seams on lighter colors Price range: $50 – $120 per square foot installed Best for: Families, busy kitchens, anyone who does not want to think about maintenance

Granite

Natural stone quarried in slabs. Each piece is unique. Needs periodic sealing (once a year) but is extremely durable.

Pros: Heat-resistant, unique natural patterns, long-lasting, adds home value Cons: Requires annual sealing, can chip on edges, limited to what is in stock Price range: $40 – $100 per square foot installed Best for: Homeowners who want natural stone character and do not mind minimal upkeep

Marble

Natural stone prized for its veining and elegance. Softer and more porous than granite — requires more care.

Pros: Stunning visual appeal, cool surface for baking, timeless aesthetic Cons: Stains easily (acids, wine, citrus), scratches, needs regular sealing, expensive Price range: $75 – $200 per square foot installed Best for: Low-traffic kitchens, homeowners who prioritize aesthetics, baking enthusiasts

Butcher Block

Solid hardwood (maple, walnut, cherry) assembled in strips. Warm, natural, and ideal for prep areas.

Pros: Warm aesthetic, easy to sand and refinish, gentle on knives, affordable Cons: Needs oiling, can warp near sinks, not heat-resistant, scratches over time Price range: $30 – $80 per square foot installed Best for: Farmhouse-style kitchens, secondary prep areas, island tops paired with stone perimeter counters

Solid Surface (Corian)

Man-made acrylic material. Seamless installation with integrated sinks. Repairable.

Pros: Seamless look, integrated sinks, repairable scratches, non-porous Cons: Not heat-resistant, can scratch, limited to solid colors and simple patterns Price range: $35 – $75 per square foot installed Best for: Budget-friendly renovations, bathrooms, laundry rooms, rental units

Our Countertop Installation Process

1. Material Selection

Visit our showroom or browse samples in your home. We bring full-size slab photos for natural stone so you can select your exact piece — the veining and color you see is the veining and color you get.

2. Templating

After your cabinets are installed, we create a precision template of your countertop layout using digital laser measurement. This captures every angle, cutout, and edge to within 1/16 of an inch.

3. Fabrication

Your slab is cut, edged, polished, and prepared for sink and cooktop cutouts. Fabrication takes 5 – 10 business days depending on material and complexity.

4. Installation

Our crew installs your countertops, levels and secures them, applies seams (if any), and connects sink and cooktop cutouts. Most kitchen countertop installs take 2 – 4 hours.

5. Sealing & Care Instructions

For natural stone (granite, marble), we apply the first seal and provide care instructions. Quartz, solid surface, and butcher block get material-specific care guides.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does countertop installation take?

The installation itself takes 2 – 4 hours for most kitchens. The full process — from templating to installation — takes 7 – 14 days. Templating cannot happen until cabinets are fully installed and level.

Can I replace countertops without replacing cabinets?

Yes, as long as your existing cabinets are structurally sound and level. We remove the old countertop, verify cabinet condition, and install the new surface. This is one of the fastest kitchen upgrades you can do.

Do you do countertop-only projects?

Absolutely. Countertop replacement is a standalone service — you do not need a full kitchen remodel to get new countertops. We handle plenty of countertop-only projects across Queens.

What edge profiles do you offer?

Standard edges include eased (straight with softened corners), beveled, bullnose, and ogee. Waterfall edges (where the countertop continues down the side of an island) are available for quartz and natural stone at additional cost.

How do I maintain quartz countertops?

Quartz is the easiest countertop material to maintain. Clean with soap and water or a mild household cleaner. No sealing required — ever. Avoid placing extremely hot pans directly on the surface (use trivets) and do not use abrasive cleaners.
